Welcome to the NEW Kitsel Blog!

Almost 6 years ago to the day, I became a mother for the first time.  Becoming a mother has been one of the most important, defining moments of my personal life.  My son has grown from being a baby who weighed only 4 pounds to a thriving little boy who has filled my life with an indescribable joy.    Almost 5  years to the day I had the absolute luck of experiencing another defining moment, however, this one would touch me in a very different way.  After a year of stay at home motherhood, I yearned for something more.  I loved being a Mother, but craved a challenge beyond changing diapers & doing laundry.  I longed for something a bit more “adult-like” but struggled with the guilt I felt in wanting to step away from my only child.  Fortified with the blessing of my family and a small business loan, I was able to overcome my ambivalent feelings and dedicate part of myself to another baby…..a tangible baby called “Kitsel”.

When I began Kitsel, I wanted to name it “tickle” and had a vision of providing witty baby t-shirts and cool toddler clothing to mothers like myself, who weren’t into duckies and teddy bears.  I chose the word “tickle” because I wanted to find clothing that would not only dress a child in stylish clothing but would tickle the soul of the parent who dressed them.  Unfortunately, the name “tickle” was not available, and not wanting to settle, I set out to find a creative way to incorporate “tickle” into my new business, and that is when I came up with the name “Kitsel”, which means “tickle” in Yiddish!

Kitsel began in 2006 with only 35 products (yes, only 35 products!!!!) and a founder who knew very little about “online” businesses!  But with a lot of hard work and determination, I set out to make Kitsel the premier online baby, toddler, kids & tween boutique!  Since our opening in 2006, I have listened to you and added what you asked for:  more gear and modern nursery & kids furniture!  When you expressed that your babies were growing up and you needed bigger sizes, I heard you and earlier this year, I opened Kitsel Kids!

Today, I am a very proud to announce the relaunch of Kitsel.  For the past 6 months, I have worked very hard with an incredible team of web designers & web developers to move Kitsel to a new, progressive platform, to redesign and modernize the site and to combine both of our stores so that our customers can shop for their children of all ages!  It is a monumental change for Kitsel, but one I know you will love!!!!  We have added a great assortment of new brands for babies, toddlers, kids & tweens and have updated our furniture and gear sections.  In addition to the changes in Kitsel, we have launched this new blog called Kitsel Kibitz!  In keeping with the Yiddish theme, Kibitz means to chat, and my ambition with this blog is to chat with you!

Kitsel Kibitz will bring you product updates, news & events, specials & discounts and valuable parenting information!  The goal with Kitsel Kibitz is to open a dialogue with you and to learn more about who you are and what you want out of Kitsel!  Kitsel Kibitz will feature guest bloggers & experts and even have a fun poll for you to take!  So stay tuned, get involved and let Kitsel tickle your soul…….
